That's right. I had to cut the drive connector at the SX-64 floppy and splice it into the three connectors used in the external 1541. I had it "mocked up" but it wouldn't read a disk. After awhile of tinkering, I determined that the 1541 board I was using was bad as well! I swapped out the...

SX-64 Modifications

So far, I have replced the worn CRT monitor with a Coby 5.5" color TV. I have it set up so I can use the remote and watch tv as well. The FDD board was removed (it didn't seem to work anyway) to make more room for the tv circuit board. A short 1541 drive board will be installed to control the F...

X1541 Cable

I just finished making the X1541 Cable. I have an SX-64 and three 1541 drives, two of which work pretty well. I downloaded the Star Commander, an with a bit of trial and error, I was able to download some games and put them on the 1541. For some strange reason, the SX-64 monitor won't display in col...

If you do any search on the Net, you'll find they are somewhat rare. I think they were a precursor to the Plus/4? A stripped down c64? If the price is right, go for it. I'm sure acquiring cables or making them should not be a problem. I myself have acquired an SX-64 and a few 1541 drives, I'm trying...

I have an old magazine article that shows how to interface a vic20 with an older Epson printer and a short basic program. I'm not sure it will work, since the Vic and Pet/Cbm have different memory mapping. I could scan it in and Email if you want.

I think I basically need to score one (or two!) 1541 drives for parts. I tried removing all the socketed chips and reinstalled them. I think I can rule out the FDD controller board's 6502, the I/O board's 6526 because the keyboard works fine (unless only the lines referencing the floppy are bad!). B...

I swapped the 6502 processor on the FDD controller board, I didn't touch the 6510 on the CPU card. I'm thinking one (or two) of the logic ICs on the controller are bad. It couldn't hurt to replace them all.

SX-64

Just got an SX-64 off Ebay. It's got issues. It has a problem keeping a horizontal hold, the disk drive runs continuously with the light on steady. Oh, and it didn't have a keyboard cable. I fixed that by getting a DB25 male to male cable from Radio Shack for 10 bucks. Had to modify the plastic to m...
