Hello to fellow Commodore owners,

my question is: I have a Commodore 64 1541-11 discdrive and a few games, but I wanted to use it for more than a few games. It seems a pity only to use it for games as it's a computer as well as a games console. So I wanted to use the GEOS operating system but I don't know where to buy it from and what hardware upgrades I would need to do.
I'm not super computer-literate, I just like old computers, especially the Commodore 64, so as simple as possible please.

Thanks and best wishes
Andy

If you do not sell or redistribute it, GEOS can be downloaded for free from here.
The actual link to the download can be found on the last page (Other useful things, direct link here).

You can attach these disk images to a C64 emulator, for example VICE and run it from there.

If you want to transfer the software to a real diskette, you need a special cable and the right software to connect a 1541(II) disk drive to your PC and write data to it.

If downloading and converting are not for you, then you could buy used, original GEOS disks (with the copy protection stripped for ease of use with GEOS applications). Our club has such GEOS disks.

If you are on a budget, then getting a second 5 1/4" disk drive would be at the top of the list for needed items. With the second drive, handling GEOS is more tolerable.
