Translate PaperClip to PC Format

Post by Bramblewood »

I have several hundred disks created with my C 64 and Batteries Included 'PaperClip' software. I would like these translated to a format that I can read with my PC. These are personal diary entries and I have no way of recovering them. I have the PaperClip software but no dongle for it. I also have several C 64's, a C 128 and monitors and drives (various) that I would be willing to trade for this service or cash if that is necessary. Please contact me for more info. Thanks. That's wonderful. I have been trying to get these translated for almost 20 years. How do I make it happen. Thank you. Bruce [email protected]

Our newsletter editor (who lives in Kansas) can do it. I'll send you his e-mail in private.

If he is unable to do so, we can do the translation here in the Fresno area.

Hi,

A few years ago I converted a bunch of PaperClip files to PC text files. It wasn't all that difficult to do once I figured it out.

Years ago I had made an RS232 interface for the user port, so I could plug a standard RS232 modem into my 64 / Vic. When I was looking to convert Paperclip stuff to my PC I found that in Paperclip there is a way to switch the printer output to go out the user port / serial port on the C64, and a way to have it output standard ASCII. So by using my user port to RS232 interface then a null modem / crossover cable to a standard PC, along with a standard terminal program on the PC set to capture to a text file, I could then have Paperclip print all the files to the PC. I didn't get full text formatting such as bold, italics and such, but I did get all my text.

Once I figured out the process it was pretty straight forward converting all my old Paperclip documents.
