I was thinking that the problem may be with the transformer. It does buzz very loudly. My theory is that the monitor is working just fine. The monitor screen is completely covered in perfectly formed characters. The system is locked up. The problem occurs as soon as the computer is turned on and in not intermittent. Thank you for the information concerning the drive. To the best of my knowlegde, everything made by Commodore for Europe runs on 220 current.
