Next FCUG meeting - Sunday, Jan. 20 - SX-64 day!

Post by rbernardo »

Happy New Year, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Sunday, January 20, at --

Bobby Salazar's Mexican Restaurant
2839 North Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Michigan)
Fresno, California

Happy 30th anniversary, SX-64! This month we are celebrating the 1983 release of the Commodore SX-64. We're bringing in at least 3 SX-64's to the party. And we'll be running games, the SuperCPU, and a Capture II cart off those SX-64s. Joining us via Skype will be Berry De Jager and fellow SX-64 users in the Netherlands (don't forget that it will be night time for them).

In addition, members Louis M. and Vincent M. will be bringing in their VIC-20 for even more gaming. Louis will show us how to rebuild a classic Atari joystick with new parts. To top off the meeting, we'll have some "official" photos and video taken of the event!

Internationally yours,

PSCUG Meeting - January 20 / Global SX-64 Party (fwd)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Commodore Fans,

This month marks the 30th birthday for the Commodore SX-64. Our good friend Berry DeJager has organized a global party for January 20 which coincides perfectly with our Puget Sound Commodore Users Group in Seattle, Washington.

Members from our sister club, the Portland Commodore Users Group, will be joining with us and celebrating this Commodore milestone. We'll start the event off at the Houghton II Starbucks at 10:00 a.m. and then move on to our regular club events at Kent Sullivan's Home (where we've had gatherings in the past).

It will be a fantastic event, displacing all those hipsters with their iStuff - we have about 12 confirmations so far for invading Starbucks with SX-64s. Even if you don't have an SX-64, come anyway. Maybe even bring a regular C64. We'll have an Internet bridge so we can get on their free Wi-fi with our Internet devices (Comet64, etc.).

For more information about the Commodore SX-64 Party, please see the following links:
http://pscug.org
http://pdxcug.org/blog.asp
http://c64.berrydejager.com/sx64party/

Time and Location:
Sunday, January 20, 2012 10:00am - 9:00pm
Houghton II Starbucks
6733 108th Ave NE
Kirkland, WA 98033

If you can't make the Starbucks SX-64 party, you can still join us at Kent's house later in the day. For his location information, please email me.

Happy Birthday, Commodore SX-64!

Checking at Berry's blog at http://c64.berrydejager.com , I found that more clubs/people are joining in on the celebration tomorrow. In addition to Berry's group in the Netherlands, the Fresno Commodore User Group, the Portland Commodore User Group, and the Puget Sound Commodore User Group, the Toronto PET User Group, the Central Texas Amiga Computer Society, and users in France are joining in. Wow!

What an international shindig!

Next FCUG meeting - Sunday, Feb. 17

Post by rbernardo »

Happy Valentine's Day, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Sunday, February 17, at --

Bobby Salazar's Mexican Restaurant
2839 North Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Michigan)
Fresno, California

This month is video digitizer month! We'll play around with four video digitizers for the C64 - ComputerEyes, the Print Technik Video-Digitizer, Video Byte II (including Super Explode V5.0), and the Scanntronik Video Digitizer. Photography the C64 way! Perhaps I'll even bring in a printer so that we could have hardcopies of the video captures. To see some pics of the video digitizer hardware, go to

http://retro-link.blogspot.com/2013/02/ ... izers.html

Speaking of video, we'll have the world premiere of our amateur SX-64 commercial, a tribute to the original SX-64 commercial which you can see at

.

Last month was the 30th anniversary of the SX-64, and at that time we filmed our tribute. Look for our amateur video soon at Blip.tv and at Youtube.com

Delayed from last month, Louis will show us how to rebuild a classic Atari joystick with new parts. Up for discussion will be plans for the July 27-28 Commodore Vegas Expo and other shows happening this year.

Next SCCAN meeting - Saturday, March 9

Post by rbernardo »

Greetings, C= and Ami comrades!

Our next meeting of the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network is Saturday, March 9, at

Panera Bread Restaurant
19662 Nordhoff Street
Northridge, California
(818) 407-9400

I'll be bringing the Amiga 1200 tower, pictured at http://www.dickestel.com/images/expo716.jpg I hope it survives the transport; it doesn't take shaking too well. :) Also SCCAN member Richard G. may be bringing his "game museum". Naturally, the SX-64 and SuperCPU will be there with a selection of games.

Don't forget to bring any Amiga or Commodore items you wish to share!

Happy St. Patty's Day, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Sunday, March 17, at --

Bobby Salazar's Mexican Restaurant
2839 North Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Michigan)
Fresno, California

This month we concentrate on Creative Micro Design's SuperCPU! With all the renewed interest due to VICE now having SuperCPU 64 emulation, we take a look at what the SCPU can do with real Commodores. We'll look at the following programs under SCPU control -- 3D Pool, Asteroids emulator, Zoomania, Silicon Dreams, and WinC64.

Last month we were not able to demonstrate the C64 video digitizer, Video Byte II (including Super Explode V5.0). This time we'll have a gender changer for its video cable, and we'll use it on a C64 (instead of last month's SX-64).

In Amiga hardware, I'm lugging in the Amiga 1200 Tower which runs Amiga OS 3.9. More specifications on it can be found at

http://retro-link.com/smf/index.php?topic=251.0

Last but not least, we'll try out some of the latest games for the VIC-20.

Truly,
Robert Bernardo

P.S. From Southern California, member Charles G. may be video-chatting with us from Southern California.

Happy April, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Sunday, April 21, at --

Bobby Salazar's Mexican Restaurant
2839 North Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Michigan)
Fresno, California

This month we concentrate on the VIC-20. In hardware I'll bring in the giant VC-1020 expander for the VIC-20, we'll look at the smaller Cardco Cardboard/3 Expansion Interface and the HesWare HesCard-20 5-Port Cartridge Expander for the VIC-20, and the MSD 24K RAM Expansion Memory for the VIC-20.

In the software part of our meeting, we'll try out the VIC-20 programs from the Jeff Daniels' disk, the Denial Archive. If we can dig it out in time, we'll look at the VIC-20 programs on the TPUG Library CD. We'll talk about chips (found a stash of them in storage), C= related videos, my visit to an astronomer who used a VIC-20 to record data from his telescope, and even the upcoming William Shatner Weekend at the end of this month. Of course, we'll talk about the latest info about the July 27-28 Commodore Vegas Expo.

Happy Cinco de Mayo, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Sunday, May 5, at --

Bobby Salazar's Mexican Restaurant
2839 North Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Michigan)
Fresno, California

Note the date for this month's meeting; we had to change the meeting from our usual third Sunday of the month due to the May 18-19 Maker Faire (http://makerfaire.com/ ). We will have a Commodore and Amiga exhibit at that fantastic event!

For May we concentrate on the PET 4032; we'll be checking various programs that work on the 40-column screen of the PET 4032. We'll also delve more into the VIC-20 programs found on the Toronto PET User Group Library CD. Finally, if we have time, we'll look at the C64 pictures and tunes which were entered in the compo at Gubbdata 2013 in Sweden.

Not to mention talk of CommVEx v9 2013,

Greetings, C= and Ami comrades!

Our next meeting of the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network is Saturday, May 11, 2 to 4+ p.m. at

Panera Bread Restaurant
19662 Nordhoff Street
Northridge, California
(818) 407-9400

I'll be bringing the Amiga 600, VIC-20, and the SX-64 and SuperCPU with games. Also I'll be bringing a box of Commodore odds-and-ends donated by the former tech of the Fresno Commodore User Group... free stuff for anyone.

Because the Commodore Vegas Expo is coming on July 27-28, expect talk to center on that show (with more talk about Commodore and Amiga at the May 18-19 Maker Faire in San Mateo, at the June 1 SC3 Arcade Party in Santa Ana, and at the July 6 Atari Party 2013 in Davis).

Don't forget to bring any Amiga or Commodore items you wish to share!

Bobby Salazar's Mexican Restaurant
2839 North Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Michigan)

Note the date for this month's meeting; we had to change the meeting from our usual third Sunday of the month due to Father's Day happening on the same day.

For June we will examine two new SD2IEC card drives from England and a couple of rebuilt, upgraded C64 power supplies from Duncan, repair tech for The Other Group of Amigoids. Then we'll try out the new Multicart 64 from 8-Bit Designs and a C64 DTV modded with serial port and keyboard connectors. Plus there will be a short video from Maker Faire 2013, a glimpse at Tim Harris' website at http://blog.sharewareplus.co.uk/view/magazine , a report of my trip to the Pacific Northwest to visit Portland C= members and repair tech Ray Carlsen, and news of the July 27-28 Commodore Vegas Expo. Bobby Salazar's Mexican Restaurant
2839 North Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Michigan)

This month we'll be going down the checklist of items to bring to the July 27-28 Commodore Vegas Expo. After the meeting, any help in order to pack is appreciated.
